Summer is here and it’s time to up your date night game! Looking for some fun and unique date night ideas in/near Harrisonburg and Staunton, Virginia? Tired of doing the same things over and over again? Here are a few of my favorites to mix things up!

Staunton, Virginia and Surrounding Areas

Looking to try something REALLY different? Check out the Virginia Scenic Railway that heads out from Staunton! Book the Sip & Savor Express, Ales & Rails, Bourbon & BBQ, Murder on the Menu, or head out just for the views! They even offer a Sunday Brunch option if you’re wanting a real meal. This is a pricier date, but definitely one that won’t be forgotten!

Stargazing At Reddish Knob

Directions

This one might be a bit of a trek, but it’s totally worth it to have almost pitch black skies!

With an elevation of 4,397 feet and being so far from well, anything, it gets you above and away from light pollution to better see the night sky. Being this high up also gives you a 360 degree view of “Shenandoah Mountain, the Shenandoah Valley, and the mountains of West Virginia and Highland County, Virginia, Massanutten Mountain, and the Blue Ridge Mountain”. Head out early for sunset with a picnic and you’ve got a relatively “cheap” date with some seriously gorgeous views.

Getaway at the Joshua Wilton House

412 S. Main Street
Harrisonburg, VA 22801

The Joshua Wilton House was a home I’ve admired since I was little. It’s absolutely beautiful and holds a lot of history of the Shenandoah Valley dating back to the late 1800’s. This is definitely a fine dining and stay experience, but something I think everyone should do! The inn rooms are beautifully done, holding onto the history of the home. The food is also delicious! This would be a really beautiful stay for an anniversary or proposal. If you’re a sucker for history and old photos (like me), you can read about the amazing history of the Joshua Wilton House HERE.

Edith J. Carrier Arboretum

Last but not least, the Edith j Carrier Arboretum in Harrisonburg! I wanted to give you guys one more option for a “free” (but awesome) date idea. The arboretum is one of my favorite places to visit. Take a picnic or just meet up for a sunset stroll through the woods. There’s a stream, forest, and many gardens to explore.

You can find directions HERE.
